Next week marks the start of the inaugural Bishop Willie Walsh Cup for our Academy hurlers from U13 to U17. The seven-week competition will take place on the Astro Turf at the Wall Ball, with Finals Night crowning our overall “King of the Wall.”
The cup is named in honour of Bishop Willie Walsh, a lifelong Éire Óg supporter and honorary club member who passed to his eternal home on February 19th this year. Bishop Willie served as Vice-Chairperson (1990–1992) and Club President (1995–1996), and was a central figure in Éire Óg’s 1990 Canon Hamilton Championship success as a selector alongside Paddy Duggan, Colm Flynn, Séamus Durack, and Martin Dilger.
His passion for hurling and his service to Éire Óg will be fondly remembered throughout this new tournament that proudly bears his name.
