Paddy O’Halloran was part of the life and soul of Éire Óg Inis for decades, as a member, officer, Chairman, President, trainer, selector and mentor to generations of players. A proud Doonbeg man, he joined Éire Óg when he came to town to work in the Post Office in the early 70s, having previously spent some years in Castlebar in the same capacity and representing Mayo in intercounty football. He was active in underage coaching and management from an early stage, also in the organizing of winter activities for youth in what was then known as Paddy Con’s Hall (Maria Assumpta Hall).
When the club moved to Clonroadmore in the mid 70s, Paddy played an active role in fundraising to provide the clubhouse which was officially opened in 1984. Later, he managed the operation of the astroturf-the first in Ennis, and under his diligent stewardship, rental of the facility became a vital source of revenue for the club over a number of years. Long after retiring as an active club official. Paddy retained a keen interest in the fortunes of the club and indeed nobody was more overjoyed than him and the dual county championship win in 2026. His son Jarlath coached teams in the club and his grandsons David and Stephen represented Clare at both minor and senior hurling, David winning U21 and senior All-Ireland medals in 2013.
Never short of an opinion or an interest in sharing them, Paddy contributed jovially to many a discussion between himself and his circle of friends who met occasionally for a convivial pint in the clubhouse bar. Gifted with a fine voice, he could easily be prevailed upon to entertain the attendance at club social occasions with a song. Also a keen golfer, Paddy won many competitions, including a Captain’s Prize, at Ennis Golf Club.
The Executive and members of Éire Óg Inis extend our deepest sympathy to Paddy’s family on his sad passing, to his wife Imelda, his children, grandchildren and extended family.
The Club will forma Guard of Honour following requiem mass on Friday, available members should assemble at the main door at the end of mass.
