First we would like to express our congratulations to Niall Malone on being selected as sideline official on the biggest of days in the National hurling calendar. It is a huge honour for Niall to play an integral part in the All-Ireland hurling final. Well deserved Niall and your club is very proud of you. Adult Club Championships

 

We are back in full swing with adult club championships starting this weekend. We get underway with senior hurling on Saturday where we take on Crusheen at 3pm in Gurteen. Please note this game is not being streamed. On Sunday our intermediate hurlers travel to Inagh for their round 1 tie v Kilmaley, throw in 1pm. All the best to Gerry & Co on Saturday and Mikey and his crew on Sunday. Your support on the sidelines is always welcomed and appreciated.

Clare U20s

 

The U20 Munster and All-Ireland hurling trophies paid a visit to Academy training last Friday to the delight of the children and parents! Well done to Robert Loftus, Darren Moroney, Niall Doyle and Marco Cleary who made plenty of time for all the kids in attendance. Coach Tom MC'd the event superbly and Club Chair Brian Howard was on hand with a few words and to make a presentation to the lads to mark their achievements. Hats off to young photographer Tony Summerly who captured the evening on camera and thanks also to Kilmihill's Gerry O'Neill who kindly provided photos from his U20 photo collection for the presentation.

Éire Óg 75th anniversary commemorative book-seeking budding journalists

 

As part of our celebration of the 75th anniversary of the foundation of Éire Óg next year (2027), a committee is working on the production of a commemorative book, which will comprise among other material, a history of hurling, football, camogie and LGFA in the club,  articles on members who have made a significant contribution to the club over the years, items of broader interest on sporting matters locally, recent developments relating to club expansion, sporting achievement/sports personalities etc.

 

We are particularly interested in having our younger members involved in the project and we would love to hear from members-young men and women-who may have an interest in journalism and who may have ideas regarding items for inclusion in the book. For instance if somebody would like to write an article on one of our current sporting heroes, or would welcome the opportunity to conduct an interview with them, we would love to hear from them.  This may be an opportunity for somebody who wishes to pursue a career as a print or media journalist to dip their toe in the water and produce a piece of writing which may be of benefit when developing a portfolio of work for entry into a journalism course.

Academy

 

Congratulations to our Minor Footballers on a fantastic 4-point victory over Lissycasey on Tuesday evening. Well done to the players and management on another great performance.

 

Attention now turns to our Minor Hurlers, who travel to Kilmaley next Monday evening. We wish the team the very best of luck and hope they can bounce back strongly from their narrow defeat to Doora Barefield. All support would be greatly appreciated.

 

Best of luck also to our U13 Footballers, who play their final group game, and to our u13 Academy Hurlers, who take on The Banner on Tuesday evening.

 

A reminder that the Éire Óg Summer Camp gets underway on Monday. As a result, there will be no Academy training on Monday 27th or Friday 31st.

Camogie

 

*Intermediate & Junior C*

Our two adult teams are training in preparation for championship & organising challenge matches. Their championships will kick off mid-August.

 

*U18*

Our Minor Camogie team have finished top of their championship group after an excellent group stage campaign, recording four wins from four matches.

 

The girls now progress to the next stage where they will face Whitegate on Friday, 31st July, at 7:15pm on the main pitch in Éire Óg for the semi final.

 

Best of luck to the players and management as they continue their championship journey. 

We encourage all club members and supporters to come along and cheer the team on.

 

*U14*

Our U14 camogie team take on Newmarket on Fergus, Friday 24th July, in Newmarket at 8pm. The girls have played 4 matches to date and won 4, with 3 to go. 

 

Our U14 academy team have a break from matches this week before taking on Kilmaley in round 4 of the academy games on Monday 27th July. Details TBC. 

 

*U12*

The U12 girls have played 3 league games so far this season. They have continued to show excellent commitment, teamwork and skill development, with every game providing valuable experience and plenty of positive performances.

They now takes a short break from matches before returning to action on Saturday, 8th August, when they welcome Kilmaley to Éire Óg.

 

*U10s & U8s*

Our U10 and U8 players continue to enjoy a fun and active season, taking part in monthly non-competitive blitzes where the emphasis is on participation, skill development and team building. 

 

Training continues to be very well attended, with fantastic numbers turning out each week, even during the recent spell of good weather. It’s great to see such enthusiasm and commitment from some of our youngest players. 

*U6s*

U6 camogie are currently on a short summer break from training and will return to the astro on the 8th of August. Enjoy the break

Her Sport Workshop with Ailish Considine

 

Éire Óg is delighted to host a Her Sport Workshop for females aged 16–25 on Monday, 27th July at 7:30-9:30pm. The workshop which is designed to support young women in and around sport, particularly at an age where many start to lose confidence, step away, or feel unsure about their place in sport and physical activity, will be facilitated by Ailish Considine, former camogie, LGFA and AFLW player. To help us plan the event, we are asking females interested to complete a short attendance interest form. This will help us determine whether our clubhouse can accommodate everyone or if we need to secure a larger venue. Gaelic 4 Mothers n Others New York Blitz

 

The Walk to New York challenge finishes on Saturday and the draw for the signed Clare Jersey will take place at the clubhouse Saturday evening. All monies raised will help alleviate the substantial costs of entering a team into the Festival of Football Blitz in New York in October, entry is $5000! The team will be covering the costs of travel and accommodation themselves. 

 

On Saturday 25th, the G4MO have organised a blitz at the clubhouse with several teams travelling to take part in games and of course plenty of fun to be had too. The games will be played between 4.30 and 7pm so do pop down to support or call by after the senior hurling. The games will be followed by food and entertainment with Damian Gormley on hand from 7 to 8.,30pm. All are welcome to the games and the evening at the clubhouse. 

The winner of the signed Clare jersey will be drawn in the evening, and there will be other raffle prizes too.

 

Clonroad Brew will be open during the games for any coffee and treat requirements!

Féileacáin Coffee Morning

 

A coffee morning will take place on Saturday August 1st from 10am to 1pm at the clubhouse. This is a fundraiser for Féileacáin (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Support Ireland) and is being held ‘In Memory of Harry’. All are welcome to the coffee morning and there will be a raffle on the day as well as music by local artists.
