The death has occurred of Colm Madigan, former stalwart of Éire Óg, who won 2 senior hurling championship medals, playing at mid-field for the club in 1956 and 1957. A son of Joe, (Jeweller) Madigan and brother of Brendan and the late Seán, (who also played on the '56 and '57 teams), from the Kilrush Road, Colm played both hurling and football for Clare in the 50s before joining the army and moving to Kildare, where he eventually became head of the army Cadet School, reaching the rank of Lt. Colonel at the time of his final posting as Commanding Officer 3rd Battalion.
A keen golfer in later life, he was a senior rules official in the Leinster Branch GUI and officiated at the South of Ireland Championship in Lahinch over many years. Colm was an uncle of our Assistant Secretary Aileen Broderick and club sponsor Eoin Doohan, our sympathies to them and the Doohan and Madigan families.
