A huge congratulations to Martin Nugent, a more than worthy recipient of the 2021 Clare Camogie Club Volunteer of the Year award. Martin has been the go to person for all club activities for many years and continues to do the same. Martin was also bestowed the honour of club president from 2022, taking the reins from Larry Hally. Well done Martin, from all at Éire Óg Inis.

NB: Martin will be on Clare FM radio, Thursday 13th Jan @ 10.20am to discuss his award, be sure to tune in.

From Clare Camogie on Facebook:

'Clare Camogie are delighted to announce that the recipient of their 2021 Volunteer of the Year is Martin Nugent, Eire Og Ennis Camogie
Originally from Scariff, Martin has been taking care of the Eire Og club facilities and pitch for the last several years. His dedication, care and attention to detail has a really positive impact on all club teams and members. The grounds are immaculate and both pitches are in pristine condition.
He spends several hours every day on site and prepares all facilities for matches and training.

The most important work he carries out, from a players/coach’s point of view, is the allocation of training slots. This is done in the fairest of manners, with no team getting priority over another. Martins method of pitch allocation creates a knock on effect of mutual respect and harmony between all teams across all codes. During the playing season, Martin provides a weekly list of all fixtures to the club PRO which allows teams to adjust training schedules as needed.

The local Ennis schools also benefit greatly from Martins good nature and respect for sport. Every week, multiple schools matches and blitzes are played in Éire Óg. All schools are accommodated, primary and secondary. No mean feat with four large primary schools and four secondary schools in the town. This does add greatly to his work schedule, but, as always, it is done with good humour and a smile. The use of Eire Og's facilities for schools matches raises the profile of the club and shows the Clubs support for the local community in general.

Over the last couple of years, Eire Og have installed a ball wall, a new Astro turf and a 144-seater stand. Martin had no small hand in getting these vital improvements implemented. The benefit to the club is immeasurable.

Unfortunately, Covid needs a mention! Martin has ensured that all guidelines and policies have been adhered to throughout the pandemic, thereby ensuring the safety of all members.

This man puts down a long day at the club, keeping pitches cut and lined, putting out flags for matches, making sure dressing rooms, toilets and the grounds are pristine and still finds time to come out in the evenings or weekend to support the various teams in their matches. He has been spotted supporting U12 camogie matches right up to senior hurling and football.

Every club should have a Martin Nugent!'
