Give Respect/Get Respect
Tús maith leath na hoibre they say and we’ve certainly got our 2022 championship season off to a positive start with comprehensive wins for our minor hurlers and footballers in their first round matches.
This weekend sees our adult GAA championships throw-in in earnest with junior and senior hurling openers against strong opposition, with our big ball exponents following next weekend. (See fixtures above) On behalf of the club executive and you the members, I wish all our teams the very best of luck in this year’s championships. Thanks to the management teams for their interest and commitment, thanks to the players for their energy, loyalty and passion on behalf of the club and for the long, tough months of hard graft in all weathers to get to where they are now.
So let us all now get behind our teams, let us follow them all, men, women, boys and girls, let us cheer them to the echo in our club colours in the hope that we can add further silverware to our senior football success of last year. And in cheering them let us remember the motto adopted by Éire Óg, “Give Respect, Get Respect”. Let us
· Show respect to our opponents and their supporters-even if it’s not reciprocated
· Show respect to referees-their job is hard enough without our advice blaring in their ears all the time. Unlike us, they don’t get everything right all the time, so a little understanding of that might make a difference to how we are treated.
· Show respect for our own club by tempering our comments and language during games.
All that being said, let us shout ourselves hoarse for the Townies this year. Let us wear the feared red and white to every game, let us be the extra player who gets us over the line. Let 2022 be “The Year of the Townies”
Éire Óg Abú!
