Sun 6th Nov - U21 A football Championship v Ennistymon in Éire Óg @ 1pm

A huge congrats to our senior footballers who are back-to-back County Champions following last weekend’s win over Ennistymon. The day started off brightly with the Éire Óg & Corofin All-Stars taking to the pitch in Cusack Park where they showcased their skills in what was a very enjoyable experience for all. This was a huge event for the children to come out and perform in front of an audience in a busy environment. Well done to the kids, the parents and the volunteers.

Thanks to all the supporters who have kept the faith over the senior football and hurling campaigns, ye are second to none and as noted in Gavin Cooney’s speech, yere presence and encouragement helped drive the lads over the line in the closing stages of the game. Thanks to Mike Brennan & Ray O’Mahony for snapping our memories of the campaigns and to all that sent in photos and well wishes.

A note of thanks to those who have supported both teams financially, our main senior sponsor Sean Lyne, the Lyne Family & Cruises. All the club patrons who also support the club year in year out, those named below who also gave one off donations in the run up to the finals, and those preferring not to be mentioned. Thanks also to everyone that supported the senior finals tickets raffle. A massive thanks to all of you, the club could not operate successfully without this support. See list below:

Premier senior sponsor: Sean Lyne, the Lyne Family & Cruises Bar & Restaurant, Abbey Street, Ennis

A special note of thanks to: Cruises Bar & Restaurant, Gildoc-Liam O’Doherty Building Contractors, The Temple Gate Hotel, GD Building & Roofing, Doohan Financial Planning, Clare Hire & Sales, Dan O’Connell’s Bar & Restaurant, Josie Nevin, Paul Keating Fruit & Veg, Excel Physiotherapy, TTM Healthcare and Ishka Irish Spring Water, Limerick, for their generous support of our senior teams.

Clare Senior Football Champions 2022

Respect

Today, some of our senior football squad brought the Jack Daly cup to the graves of two Éire Óg football greats who were certainly smiling down on the lads for their 2 in a row win at the weekend. Pat Fitzpatrick and Eugene McNamara RIP

PwC All Stars

Last weekend Shane O’Donnell was awarded a PwC All-Star for his performances on the field with Clare in the 2022 season. A long overdue accolade for him. As a club we are immensely proud of Shane and so delighted for him and his family, he has proven to be a committed, intelligent & hard-working player and a vital cog in his club and county teams.

Comhghairdeas mór Shane from all at Éire Óg.  (a photo borrowed from Sportsfile)

Reunion night in Éire Óg

Well done to Pa Lynch, Petey Barry and their committee on a great night in Éire Óg last night, under the guise of an 80/90s reunion the main purpose of the evening was to acknowledge the great contribution to the club for many years by Colm Flynn as well as remembering the lates and the greats of the 80s and 90s era.

Academy

Hard luck to our minor footballers who lost out agonisingly by a point in Saturday's Co. Final against Clarecastle. We want to acknowledge the team's mentors who guided the lads to a second successive final after 55 training sessions during the year. Wishing the best for the future to all the boys departing Academy ranks. Hopefully we will see them all donning the Red & White in the future. Thanks to Brian Pyne of BP Tiles for sponsoring tops for the lads for the final.

Our U16 hurlers kick-started their "A" championship on Saturday with a home game against Clarecastle at 11am in Éire Óg. A resounding first round win for the boys on a score line of 3.22 to 1.10. Next up for them is Clonlara, Sat 12th in Éire Óg. On Sunday the U16 Academy team travel to Sixmilebridge for their Rd. 1 match. Best of luck to all.

Our U14 Div. 1 Football winners are in Mallow on Saturday representing Clare in the Munster "Super 10's" Football Tournament. Clubs from each county in the province play at least two 10-a-side twenty minute games with a final to decide the overall winner. Our team is made up of all 2008 born boys. Safe travels to all attending.

Last Friday night saw the last session of our Academy training season. Well done to the coaches who organised treats for the younger age groups who are on a well deserved break until spring.

Halloween Camp

After a weather warning washout on Wednesday, our Halloween Camp happily got going on Thursday. A great couple of days was had with plenty of fun and games, and a visit from Philip Talty, Éinne O’Connor & Liam Corry along the Jack Daly Cup went down a real treat. A visit from the crepe van ensured the kids headed home with chocolate stains intact 😉  Check the club Facebook for photos: CLG Éire Óg Inis

GAA Healthy Clubs Conference

Next weekend, Saturday November 12th, sees a posse from our Healthy Clubs Committee head to Croke Park for the National Healthy Clubs Conference, spearheaded by Healthy Club Officer, Noreen Vaughan. Best of luck to Noreen who will be presenting a case study from Éire Óg on the day.

Respect the Referee

Congrats to Niall Malone and Rory Hickey who were presented medals recently as part of the GAA ‘Respect the Referee’ initiative. The medals were awarded in respect of their refereeing county finals in 2019 (Niall) and 2017 (Rory).

In the words of Uachtarán CLG Larry McCarthy “To be the embodiment of the GAA manifesto, Where We All Belong requires that no one is left out or left behind. The people who act as match officials ensure our games take place, and without them, there would be no games. These people are just as important to the GAA as every player, coach, committee member and volunteer. They are dedicated to Gaelic games, have a passion for their vocation and have families who are proud of the contribution they make. How we treat them says something about us and the only treatment we should tolerate is one of utmost respect.”

On that note, we wish the very best of luck to Niall (Molly) Malone this Sunday when he referees the Munster hurling QF meeting of Ballygunner v Kilruane MacDonaghs.
