Invitation to an Information Night for all Clare Club Coaches

Monday 21st November at 7.30pm in the Temple Gate Hotel, Ennis

The Clare Health and Wellbeing Committee of the GAA, together with the Gardai and Bushypark Addiction Treatment Centre (Clarecare) are delighted to welcome to you to an Information Night for all GAA clubs throughout County Clare. This is open for you all Club Coaches Players and volunteers to help to inform, educate and support you around substance abuse and behavioural issues that may present in your club.

Clare GAA want to support all members in a very positive way, by providing this information night this will help us all to come together and also to assist you as clubs to develop a positive response or deal with issues to substance use (drugs and alcohol) and behaviours (gambling, gaming etc) that may present within your clubs. Clare GAA recognise the fantastic work you undertake and the challenges this involves so we are reaching out to support you in responding to the social challenges that are impacting on clubs and players across all disciplines.

The event will be held in the Temple Gate Hotel, Ennis on Monday 21st November at 7.30pm

The format of the evening will be as follows: Tea/Coffee on arrival

1. Welcome and Opening Comments Kieran Keating Chairperson Clare GAA

2. Purpose of the Initiative Deirdre Murphy Head of Operations Clare GAA

3. Impact of substance misuse and Behavioural addictions on the brain and body Maurice Crowe Addiction Counsellor, Bushypark

4. Supports available from the Gardai for both clients and family members in relation to drug and gambling debts and intimidation - Padraig Frawley Gardai

5. Small round table discussions with questions and answers

6. Signposting – What additional supports are required for you as club coaches/Volunteers arising from tonight or issues presenting in your local area

7. How can Clare GAA/ Clare Gardai and Bushypark support you further in your area?


Staff from all agencies will have information stands and will be on hand on the night to facilitate discussion and to assist you with any particular issues or individual issues that may emerge

We look forward to meeting you on the night to collectively develop responses to substance abuse and harmful behaviours that are impacting people in all areas of our societies
