We were greatly saddened to learn of the death of Colum Flynn, who was involved with club activities over many years. Colum, well known for his boxing prowess, played junior hurling with Éire Óg back in the 1960s and was involved in training players at various stages from the 60s through to the 90s. Throughout his time as team selector and physical trainer, he utilised all his experience to prepare players for battle on the field. Many a Townie carried out their winter training at the CYMS Hall grappling with boxing bags and skipping ropes and plenty of running at the pitch. Having moved away with work, he made a welcome comeback to the club and was involved with winning senior hurling teams of 1980, ’82 and ’90. Colum is remembered fondly by all that crossed his path in the club, he is described as an out and out gentleman, skilled, knowledgeable, kind and always so generous with his time, healing hands and encouraging words. His passing is a great loss to all that knew and loved him. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered. We offer our sincere sympathies to his family and friends, in particular his wife Kay, and children Padraig, Ciara, Sorcha, Aoife, Katie and Eilish; to whom we also express our gratitude for the time he gave to our club. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
The club will gather for the Guard of Honour for Colum following his requiem mass on Friday morning.
