Adult Club Championships

Hard luck to our senior hurlers who exited the championship at semi final stage last Sunday having fallen foul to an impressive Inagh Kilnamona performance. Despite our efforts, we never really clicked and hadn’t the rub of the green on the day but credit to the team who kept trying till the final whistle blew. Of course, our exit not only marked the end of our championship campaign, but also marked Shane O’Donnell’s final game for the club. We wish to acknowledge the impact Shane has had on us as a club and also on a national level and wish himself and Niamh the very best with the next chapter.

We can confirm that Gerry O’Connor and the senior hurling management team have advised the Club Executive of their decision to step down. Gerry has been involved since he joined Matt Shannon in 2020, Gerry subsequently taking on the managers role from 2024. In those seven years, we have reached three semi finals, two quarter finals and two finals with ultimate success coming with the win in 2025, 35 long years since we last had the Canon Hamilton at Éire Óg and the victory all the sweeter when our senior footballers captured the Jack Daly the following week. It will live long in our memories.

There is a lot of time, effort and dedication involved in the role and we extend our gratitude to Gerry for all he has given, and the efforts made to work in harmony with football management giving due regard to the dual players. Thanks also to the management team of Ronan Keane, John Russell, Kieran McDermott, Liam Cronin and Cathal O’Brien and others involved down through the years, and to the unsung heroes in the backroom and stats.

Good and bad news on the relegation front, our second hurling team remain intermediate for 2027 after a good win over Doora Barefield while our Ladies footballers return to intermediate ranks after losing out despite a battling performance v Burren Gaels.

Our Junior ladies won their battle with Clarecastle to secure a quarter final spot, our Junior C hurlers earned their quarter final spot after overcoming a string second half comeback from Corofin and our Junior B hurlers made it 4 from 4 wins and go straight to the semis. Junior C hurling and Junior C camogie quarter finals will take place Sunday week.

Ahead of the adult action this weekend, our minor footballers contest the Div A semis where they are away to Ennistymon on Saturday morning at 11am, best of luck to Ciaran, Dean, Darren and the team. A quick turnabout for many of the team who will take part in the U17 A hurling playoff v Ballyea on Tuesday at 7.30pm in Caherlohan.

Our Junior C footballers play their last round v Wolfe Tones on Saturday at 1pm in Clareabbey, the very best of luck to Jason and the team.

It’s a Super Sunday of action with our flagship football and camogie teams in semi final action. First up our senior footballers take on Miltown in Cusack Park at 1pm, this is the first game in a double header of semis in the Park, with Kildysart v KIB following at 3pm. The very best of luck to Shane and the team, be sure to get to the park in numbers to help get the lads over the line.

Keep the flags flying then as we head to Tulla for 4pm when our intermediate camogie team meet Sixmilebridge in their bid to reach this year’s final. Wishing the very best to Keith and the team on the day.
