Dear Member,
The very best of luck to our newly crowned county senior football champions, who take the field again on Sunday in the Munster Club championship, against dual Tipperary champions, Loughmore-Castleiney. Throw-in at Cusack Park is at 1pm. I know the team will do the club proud, as they have done before, during and after the county championship-they have been wonderful ambassadors for Éire Óg and have won widespread praise for the exemplary way they represented themselves, especially among the younger generation, around the club and during their visits to local primary schools. Your club is proud of you lads!
So let’s all get behind the team on Sunday, wear our Éire Óg colours to the match and shout our heads off in encouragement. The bigger the crowd, the greater the noise, the better our chances. But all the while remembering to “Give Respect, Get Respect”. Let the referee get on with the job of reffing the match-he doesn’t need our advice!
Also still in action are our U21 footballers who meet Doora Barefield in the semi final of the A championship next Wednesday in Gurteen, we wish them all the best and also commiserations to our minor footballers who lost out to the Banner in the final last weekend.
For the past few years, around this time, we have been delighted to hold a night in the clubhouse for our volunteers, to say thanks to the many people who have helped out in various ways during the year to make Éire Óg the great club that it is-our coaches, mentors, club officials, lotto sellers, fund raisers and the many others who said yes when asked to help out from time to time. Unfortunately, for the second year in a row, we have had to postpone the event, due to concerns over Covid. However, we will hold it as soon as possible because our volunteers are the lifeblood of the club-without them we couldn’t function. Míle buiochas to all-you know who you are.
Speaking of volunteers, the need is never-ending. Our AGM is almost upon us and with it the opportunity for new recruits to put themselves forward to help out in running the club. The energy in any club comes from new blood being introduced into the team regularly, so if you have an hour to spare from time to time and you feel you may have something to offer either as a coach, in finance, in admin, in PR, in I.T., in fundraising, or wherever, we’d love to have you on board.
