Clare Junior A Football Championship 3rd Round - Sunday, September 3rd 2022
Eire Og Inis 1-5 Kilmurry-Ibrickane 3-12
After a tight and tense first half where there was nothing between the teams, the men from Quilty broke loose with a scoring blitz early in the 2nd half that devastated this young Eire Og junior team in their final group stage game today in a windy Coolmeen.
This was the decisive game in the group stages as both teams were unbeaten to date, having swatted aside the challenges of Parteen and Doonbeg. Hence the stage was set to see who would top the group and who would finish second with both teams already through to the quarter-finals.
It was a tight close affair in the first half with chances going begging for both sides that left the halftime score at 0-4 to 0-3 to the Townies at the break. From the throw-in to restart, the Kilmurry men blitzed the Eire Og defense for 2-2 that left the Townies trying to play catch-up. This played into the Quilty men's hands as they swallowed up the repeated attacks from the men in red to counter-attack and pick off their points to run out dominant winners in the end on a score line of 3-12 to 1-5 with the Eire Og goal coming from a penalty coolly dispatched by Jack Joyce. Jack Joyce, Sean Perrill and Niall O’Donoghue were the leading lights in attack while Eoin Guilfoyle and Rory Brennan were indefatigable in defense for Eire Og.
Next up is the quarter finals in about a month’s time for the Eire Og men.
